Expertise and experience
Mr. Jean-René Fourtou was born in Libourne on
June 20, 1939 and is a graduate of the Ecole
Polytechnique. In 1963, he joined Bossard & Michel
as a consultant. In 1972, he became Chief Operating
Officer of Bossard Consultants and Chairman and
Chief Executive Officer of the Bossard group in 1977.
In 1986, he was appointed Chairman and Chief
Executive Officer of the Rhône-Poulenc Group. From
December 1999 to May 2002, he served as Vice
Chairman and Chief Operating Officer of Aventis. From
2002 to 2005, he was Chairman and Chief Executive
Officer of Vivendi before becoming the Chairman of the
Supervisory Board in April 2005. He is the Chairman of
the Bordeaux University Foundation.
