Vivendi, which last summer acquired L’Ecume des Pages, the iconic literary and humanities specialist bookstore in the Saint Germain-des-Prés area of Paris, has naturally and proudly associated itself with the first edition of the Saint-Germain-des-Prés Book Fair.
The fair is open to everyone and will take place on June 29 and 30 in the heart of Saint Germain, Paris’ most literary district. It will welcome 70 authors from France and abroad*, and will include renowned names, new talents, fiction and non-fiction writers, and children’s authors. All the prestigious publishing houses and major groups that make up the French publishing landscape will be present.
The fair will be an opportunity for the public to discover a wide range of literary trends, and to choose their holiday reading for the summer! But it will also be an opportunity to immerse themselves in the poetry of Saint Germain-des-Près, and to follow in the footsteps of Georges Sand, Balzac, Boris Vian, Simone de Beauvoir, Jean-Paul Sartre and Albert Camus… Saint-Germain-des-Prés is historically the literary heart of Paris. Encyclopedists gathered there in the Age of Enlightenment. Then in the 19th century, publishers brought authors such as Georges Sand and Balzac to the area. Finally, in the 20th century, the surrealists and, after the liberation, Albert Camus and Jean-Paul Sartre were regulars in this unique neighborhood.
Created by Carole Fernandez, founder of the Rive Gauche magazine and Cerise Paris City Magazine, who has been involved for many years in the cultural and literary life of Saint Germain-des-Prés, this fair is designed to be an immersive event reflecting the Saint-Germain DNA.
